In presence of the mayor of Ljubljana as well as representatives of the national government of Slovenia, Mr. Janko Kramžar, manager of Snaga, has inaugurated the operation of the leachate treatment plant after only one and a half-year construction time. The local partner of WEHRLE Umwelt GmbH, company RIKO industrijski d.o.o., gained the order for the construction of the plant at the end of 2008 after an EU-wide tender.

The plant concept includes a membrane bioreactor (MBR) with external membranes.

For the elimination of the oxidised nitrogen compounds a pre-denitrification is planned. Further components are a basin, an activated carbon adsorption for secondary treatment as well as an ion exchanger for the reduction of the boron concentration.

WEHRLE will plan and deliver the technical equipment of the bioreactors, the ultrafiltration and the activated carbon step as secondary treatment. Furthermore, WEHRLE will provide services during the first test-operating year which demonstrates the proper operation of the plant.

The plant operator decided to use the membrane bioreactor with pre-denitrification because of some pilot tests of an engaged engineering office from Slovenia as well as having visited several existing reference plants fulfilling the discharge requirements for leachate as long as many years now.
