WEHRLE continues its success story in south east Asia by gaining another project

Together with its Thai cooperation partner E-SQUARE, WEHRLE obtains a new contract in Thailand. It is already the eleventh project WEHRLE will implement in South East Asia.

Every day, 5,000 tons of waste are disposed of and redistributed to the surrounding landfills at the On-Nut Waste Transfer Station in Bangkok, producing 1,000 m³/d of leachate that has to be treated. The discharge is carried out into sensitive waters.

In order to comply with the strict discharge values, the plant concept comprises a combination of WEHRLE’s reliable BIOMEMBRAT® Membrane Bioreactor Process (MBR) and a membrane plant consisting of several stages.

In a first step, the leachate is treated in the MBR in order to eliminate a large part of the biodegradable COD and to reduce the nitrogen load. The permeate resulting from this process is led into another membrane plant configuration to further reduce the COD as well as the dissolved dry matters. The membranes which will be used have been chosen by carrying out complex membrane screening tests. The configuration chosen now makes it possible to achieve two opposed goals: The discharge requirements regarding the organic parameters and the heavy metals will be widely fulfilled. At the same time, the discharge concentrations regarding salts accepted by the receiving water are used to their full extent, guaranteeing a considerable reduction of the concentrate quantities to be disposed of.

The concentrates of the membrane configuration are further narrowed by using higher pressure in another membrane plant. This makes it possible to achieve the required low concentrate quantity without a thermal evaporation process. This combination consisting of different membrane separation processes using different pressures guarantees the secure adherence to the required discharge values, using a minimal concentrate quantity of < 10 %.

WEHRLE will be responsible for the entire plant engineering, the supply of the membrane plants and the commissioning of the plant, which is scheduled for the beginning of 2017. The operation of the plant will be carried out by the client.
